North Hykeham Town Council is seeking a proactive and skilled individual to join our team as a Services Team – Team Leader.
About the Role
Salary: SCP 11, £28,142 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: North Hykeham, Lincolnshire
As the Services Team – Team Leader, you will lead a small team responsible for maintaining council buildings, grounds, open spaces, and supporting the delivery of council services and events. You will ensure high standards of maintenance, compliance with health and safety, and effective day-to-day supervision of the Services Team.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise the Services Team in maintaining open spaces, allotments, cemetery, and council buildings.
Operate and maintain grass cutting and other grounds maintenance machinery.
Conduct and review risk assessments, ensuring safe working practices.
Maintain hedges, grassed areas, flower beds, fences, trees, and ditches.
Oversee cemetery care, including grave marking and liaison with third parties.
Carry out play area inspections and routine property maintenance.
Support the organisation of council events, including acting as Duty Event Manager.
Liaise professionally with the public, contractors, and third parties.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding, equality, and data protection policies.
Maintain tools, equipment, and council vehicles.
Assist with inventories, opening/locking premises, and other duties as required.
Person Specification
Essential:
Full driving licence.
IOSH Working Safely qualification.
At least one year’s experience in horticultural or grounds maintenance.
Experience operating gardening machinery.
Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
Flexible approach to working hours, including some weekends.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Good public-facing manner and communication skills.
Desirable:
5 GCSEs including Maths and English.
Towing licence, IOSH Managing Safely, PA1/PA6 spraying, or chainsaw qualifications.
Previous team leader experience.
Experience with risk assessments, sports field layout, cemetery regulations, or event management.
