Twinning Association

Denzlingen

North Hykeham has been twinned for over 30 years with the town of Denzlingen in south-west Germany.

The Association is always looking for new people to join, with members coming from North Hykeham and the surrounding areas. We regularly meet every month, hold social events throughout the year and arrange biennial visits to Denzlingen for our members.

Twinning History:

The town of North Hykeham has been twinned for over 35 years with the town of Denzlingen in south-west Germany. The two communities were twinned in 1988 and the official signing of the ‘Twinning Oath’ by the Mayors of the two towns took place on 22nd April 1989, between Ted Singerton, Mayor of North Hykeham, and Wolfram Dennig, Mayor of Denzlingen.

Twinning between the two communities began because of a wish to establish the bond of friendship. For both towns and councils, the Associations are about promoting opportunities for groups, large or small, individuals and families to get together for cultural exchanges, to make and share enjoyment together. Within this context, visits take place between the two Associations, each travelling to the ‘twin’ town on a biennial basis - hospitality freely given and received. Most exchanges are hosted in the homes of members of the Association. The aims of the Association are many but it helps build new friendships, furthers our own understanding of culture and place and to extend our horizons and help establish useful commercial links. Every 4 years Denzlingen's five twin town representatives from France (St Cyr), Italy (Citta'del Pieve) and Poland (Kostancin Jeziorna) gather in Denzlingen for a Europafest celebration. Council mayors, supported by their Associations, celebrate a milestone anniversary. In 2024 the French 50 year twinning link was celebrated with mayors from all 5 towns exchanging speeches and gifts.

North Hykeham Town Council support the Twinning Association who actively engage with our German friends, in Germany and on visits to Hykeham. Members have also visited Denzlingen's other twin towns. The Association encourages membership from individuals, families, clubs, schools, community groups and businesses.
