We have been informed by North Kesteven Distrcit Council of an issue with the footbridge at St Aiden's Park over Pike Drain, and have been provided with the following statement:-
'During a routine inspection areas of decay were noted on the footbridge at St Aidan’s Park (see below plan for location). As a precautionary measure, and to ensure a full understanding of the bridge’s condition, we instructed a qualified structural engineer to undertake a detailed assessment and provide a formal report on its integrity.
Following the findings of this assessment, and in the interest of public safety, we have taken the decision to close the bridge with immediate effect; Lindum have been instructed today to install Heras fencing to make the bridge impassable. This closure is a temporary interim action while we review the engineer’s recommendations and determine the appropriate course of action.
We recognise that this bridge provides an important pedestrian route and appreciate that its temporary closure may cause inconvenience to residents and park users. Please be assured that public safety is our priority, and we are looking at this matter urgently to minimise disruption wherever possible.'
The Town Council expects to receive further updates once the required works and indicative timescales have been confirmed.
