All waste collections will change this Christmas
This year, everyone will experience a change in their bin days over the Christmas period, with bins either collected earlier or later depending on your usual day.
The changes are made to accommodate bank holidays, ensuring everyone still has a weekly collection and that our hard-working crew get to enjoy the festive season too.
Leading up to Christmas:
If you would normally expect your black bin to be collected on Monday 22 December, it will be collected sooner, on Saturday 20 December.
For normal collection days on Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 or Thursday 25 December, it will be collected one day sooner.
If your normal collection would be Friday 26 December, it will be collected one day later, on Saturday 27 December.
After Christmas:
Green-lidded bins due on Monday 29, Tuesday 30 or Wednesday 31 December will be collected as normal.
If your collection would normally be on Thursday 1 January or Friday 2 January, they will instead be collected one day later.
As usual, we cannot accept any additional side waste, so all your waste must be contained within the bin. Instead, it can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre – open as usual over Christmas, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
As always, please remember to have your bins out by 6.30am on the relevant collection day.
If you’re ever unsure which bin any item should go in, there’s our special Christmas waste webpage or for more general use, check out the A-Z of Recycling.
It’s time for the garden waste service winter pause
The garden waste service is reaching its annual pause for the winter. There will be no garden waste collections from Monday 15 December through to Friday 9 January. Collections will recommence in four-weeks’ time, on 12 January. Please use the find my bin day tool to confirm the date of your next collection.
The short break is part of the terms and conditions of the service, and represents only two collections. The break in service is not only a time when garden waste tonnage reduces but gives the team the opportunity to undergo annual training.
If you do generate any excess garden waste during this time, you can still take it to the household waste recycling centre. They're open as usual over the Christmas and New Year period apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
Thank you for all you're doing on waste and recycling.
