Town Mayor 2019-2020
Councillor Eddy Rigby
My name is Edwin John Rigby (known as Eddy) and I was delighted to be elected by my fellow Councillors as NHTC Mayor for the 2019/20 Council year. I have been a Town Councillor since 14th June 2012 and also act as Chairman on the Hykeham Planning Committee, although we currently only act as ‘Consultee’ on any Planning Application. I would like to hope that with the adoption of our Neighbourhood Plan we can have a more active involvement on how our Town is developed and improved in the years going forward.
I am 62 years of age and, along with my wife Diane, we moved to North Hykeham over 30 years ago and still live in the same house we originally purchased on Constance Avenue. My family of 4 boys have grown up in North Hykeham and have now moved on to pursue their own lives with their families. I love all matters of a sporting nature, Rugby, Football, Golf although I now only play Golf and Bowls (which I started 2 years ago) – I think sport helps tremendously in fostering community spirit and think it is vital for both health and more general wellbeing to encourage our youngsters to play as much and as many sports as they possibly can.
To this end, I believe that we possess in North Hykeham some wonderful facilities which can and should be enjoyed by all – whether that be for sport or simply walking or exercising dogs. The Town Council office staff and ground staff do a wonderful job in maintaining our parks and other Open Space areas and my thanks goes to all of them for their continuing hard work. I also acted (until recently) as a Trustee on the War Memorial and adjoining sports fields and social club which the Council supports in helping cut the grass and general maintenance. These facilities at the Memorial Hall are a huge benefit to the Town and, particularly in this year with the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings being commemorated, we should remember the sacrifices of those that gave their lives so that we can continue to enjoy and use their legacy – my personal thanks go to all the Trustees who's hard work ensures that the fallen are not forgotten. I will continue to support the Trust in providing these great facilities to the people of Hykeham and intend to nominate the Trust as one my selected Charities for this year.
I would like to use my year in office to support as many local community groups as possible and if any such organisers would like me to attend any meeting then please contact the Fen Lane office and I will try to accept as many invitations as I can. I am a fairly informal and approachable person and hope to reflect this in my year as Mayor representing this great Town of North Hykeham.
