Hykeham Community Hub
NHTC is delighted to announce that the new Community HUB being constructed on the Manor Farm Estate (behind the Manor Farm Academy and accessed via Valerian Place) is now nearing final completion. Final snagging work is due to be finished shortly and the building will then be handed over by our Main Contractor, Gelder Group Ltd, after which the facility shall be officially opened.
The HUB was originally first planned way back in the 1990’s when planning permission for the then new Manor Farm estate was granted. The Section 106 agreement dated 22nd May 2000 obligated both the land owners and builders of the estate to provide 2.25 hectares of land to NHTC upon which was to be built the HUB plus playing field and car park area. A total sum of £230k was also earmarked to pay for the construction of the building – unfortunately, this sum was not index linked. When the land was transferred to NHTC and our detailed plans could be commenced in 2015/6, the eventual contract sum to construct the building was over £750k. The shortfall was eventually covered by a Sport England grant, a Lincolnshire County Council grant and funds from NHTC reserves (built up over the years for such an eventuality).
The HUB now consists of two large Community Rooms separated by a screen which can be drawn back to create one larger room. There are two small office/reading rooms plus kitchen and toilet area. Within the ‘sport’ area there are 4 full sized changing rooms each with shower and toilet provision plus ‘officials’ changing room and storage areas. All these facilities have been designed to comply with current Sport England requirements. Patio doors from the Community area can be opened up onto outside sheltered areas to enable parents and friends to watch the outdoor sports activities.
It is envisaged that the exterior area will be marked out for football pitches (including 5 a side) however the council are also looking to encourage netball, rounders and other team facilities.
NHTC want the new HUB to be utilised by local community groups to the fullest extent possible, morning, daytime and evening activities will be encouraged. A new Pre-school has already booked usage of the HUB for term time only, but afternoon and evening allocations will be available for hire. Daytime bookings within school holidays and all outside areas will also be available for hire – either as one-off or longer term rentals subject to the Council’s Booking Policy.
